Trump Administration’s New Deportation Policies Inhumanely Demonize Immigrants

In new policy memos, President Trump called for more aggressive enforcement policies which will lead to mass deportation, directing the Department of Homeland Security to search for, arrest and deport immigrants. The memos also call for an increased hiring of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and an expansion of the number of detention facilities.

The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) strongly objects to the scapegoating of immigrants, and these new policies augment the already damaging immigration orders under the Trump Administration.

“The Trump Administration’s new policies and continued rhetoric demonize immigrants--tearing families and communities apart and striking fear in them like never before,” said NCAPA National Director Christopher Kang. “Mass deportation is the most inhumane response to our nation’s broken immigration system. Immigrants of all statuses contribute to our nation, including through the workforce and economy. We must focus on policies that keep families together and that truly adhere to our American ideals.”
