Dream Riders Across America tour kicks off: On July 27, the Dream Riders kicked off their cross-country tour in front of the Capitol. Dream Riders Across America is a campaign in which Asian American, Latino and African American youth unite to share their personal narratives and raise awareness of issues of social change and racial justice. Follow their journey by searching the hashtags #DreamRidersAcrossAmerica and #DreamRiders2015.

Langar on the Hill highlights Sikh American community: On Tuesday, July 28, SikhLEAD interns and SALDEF hosted their second annual Langar on the Hill attended by over 350 congressional staff and community members, both Sikh and non-Sikh. Attendees heard from a bipartisan group of 30 members of Congress on their personal accounts of the Sikh community’s positive impact in their lives. NAPAWF briefing focuses on Asian American women and immigration: In collaboration, NAPAWF,  the  Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and the Women’s Working Group on Immigration Reform held a Congressional briefing on Asian American women and immigration reform Tuesday. Panelists and speakers presented analysis and stories from the report, “Turning the Page on U.S. Immigration Policy: Immigration and Asian American Women and Families.”  

APIAVote Youth briefing engages young leaders: APIAVote held their YouthVote Briefing on July 27 to engage young AAPI leaders to increase AAPI voter registration and turnout. Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta gave the keynote address to the youth sharing his career path and support for the next generation of leaders. Floyd Mori honored at International Leadership Foundation Gala: APAICS CEO Floyd Mori was honored Thursday evening by the International Leadership Foundation (ILF), a group that promotes civic awareness for AAPI communities. Mori was chosen for his dedication to improve our communities.

JACL responds to comments on “radicalized” Muslims: JACL issued a statement responding to General Wesley Clark’s call for internment camps for “radicalized,” Muslims. JACL urged the importance of drawing from lessons from the Japanese American experience that we must not repeat history and jeopardize the rights of Americans.
