NCAPA strongly opposes the "Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act"

The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) strongly opposes the "Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act"

WASHINGTON, D.C.—NCAPA firmly opposes H.R. 3009, the Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act. This bill prohibits state and local enforcement agencies that protect residents regardless of immigration status from receiving certain federal grants.  The bill was introduced after the tragic death of Kathryn Steinle, but the actions of one person should not be used to advance policy that criminalizes and stereotypes immigrant communities. H.R. 3009 does not answer the real problem of our broken immigration system, it only hinders effective community policing. Our communities need comprehensive and humane immigration reform with a clear path to citizenship.
NCAPA and many member organizations signed on to the ACLU letter along with 144 national, state, and local organizations to voice opposition to the bill and is committed to working with Members of Congress to push for comprehensive immigration reform. We strongly urge Members to vote NO on H.R. 3009.
