NCAPA Blasts GOP and President Trump Created Immigration Chaos; Demands Concrete Proof of Ending Zero-Tolerance Policy at the Border

Washington, DC— The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s “zero-tolerance” policy at the border:

“We denounce in the strongest terms possible, the ongoing crisis at the border that President Trump has made worse. His recently announced Executive Order continues to detain children and their families indefinitely. This “zero-tolerance” policy must stop; and concrete proof must be provided. The President’s continued distorting of facts, blatantly misrepresenting the truth, and constantly reversing his own positions has left no currency in his verbal or written assurances.”

NCAPA National Director Gregg Orton added:

“President Trump has run a masterclass on how not to lead. Manufacture a crisis, respond to the crisis, and then seek credit for cleaning up one’s own mess is morally bankrupt, and frankly an embarrassing representation of America to the rest of the world. His continued reliance on creating a crisis to leverage during negotiations and the purposeful reliance on chaos and confusion to distract, will be remembered as some of the most cynical displays of Presidential conduct in history.

So long as President Trump’s “zero-tolerance” policy continues officially or unofficially, and so long as the GOP supports him, which their inaction and silence does, they all will remain co-authors of this next dark chapter in American history. Our country has pillaged and stolen; it has enslaved; it has excluded and interned; it has banned; and now it has detained innocent babies, children and their families who are seeking refuge.”
