National Council of Asian Pacific Americans Congratulates AAPI Leaders Kiran Ahuja and Doua Thor
The Obama Administration has announced that after six years as Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI), Kiran Ahuja will become Chief of Staff at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and that WHIAAPI Director of Strategic Partnerships Doua Thor will become WHIAAPI's new Executive Director.
“Kiran Ahuja has been a strong advocate for our Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities--building the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders from scratch--and the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans and AANHPIs throughout the nation have benefited from her leadership and efforts on our behalf,” said National Director Christopher Kang. “It is no surprise that Kiran will continue in public service, and she will bring great passion and skill to the Office of Personnel Management. We look forward to working with her in her new role.”
“Looking ahead, we are excited that Kiran will pass the baton to former NCAPA leader Doua Thor. With less than 15 months remaining in the Obama Administration, it is critical that WHIAAPI’s new Executive Director hit the ground running, and Doua’s appointment is a reaffirmation by the Administration of WHIAPPI’s important work and assurance that it will continue without skipping a beat,” Kang continued. “In addition to her experience in the Administration, Doua brings a strong community advocacy perspective--as former Executive Director of NCAPA member Southeast Asia Resource Action Center for nearly a decade and a former NCAPA Executive Committee member--and we look forward to continuing to partner with her to further amplify and address the needs of our communities on the national level and in the Administration.”
