NCAPA condemns police violence against minority communities: On Friday, NCAPA released a statement in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, mourning the recent deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, as well as that of the other African Americans who disproportionately face police brutality. NCAPA and member organization NAPABA applaud hearing for two AAPI judges: On Wednesday, July 13, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing discussing the nomination of Asian American judges Lucy Koh and Florence Pan to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the District Court of the District of Columbia, respectively. NCAPA urges the prompt hearing for Supreme Court and other pending AAPI nominees. Read NAPABA’s statement.

NCAPA celebrates Senate passage of Congressional Gold Medal for Filipino World War II veterans: This week, the Senate approved legislation awarding Filipino World War II veterans the Congressional Gold Medal, finally recognizing their service to this country, and condemning the Rescission Act of 1946, which led to the denial of these veterans’ rightfully deserved benefits. NCAPA and member organization APIAHF (Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum) send President letter on health care access and DACA: On Monday, July 11, APIAHF, along with 360 other organizations, released a letter addressed to the President calling on improving access to affordable health care for participants in the DACA program. JACL Kakehashi Project application period open:  The Kakehashi Project allows youth to travel to Japan with all expenses paid for about 8 days. The project allows youth to establish cross-cultural relationships with those in Japan. There are three trips to Japan yearly during the fall, winter and spring. The application for the winter and spring trips is due Oct. 1, 2016. You can learn more about the Kakehashi Project here.

USCIS Filipino World War II Veterans Program applications open: Translations about the parole program are now available in Tagalog. Go to www.uscis.gov/fwvp to learn more.
