NCAPA opposes Sen. Jeff Sessions’ nomination to be attorney general: NCAPA and 19 of its members joined a Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights letter in strong opposition to the confirmation of Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general of the United States.
More Asian Americans to receive language assistance in elections: The Census Bureau updated its jurisdictions that must provide bilingual voting assistance to Asian Americans, Latinos, American Indians and Alaskan Natives. Download the update from Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC.
NCAPA members support increased Census funding: NCAPA supported a funding increase for the Census Bureau in a Census Project letter to Committee on Appropriations leadership. The 12 NCAPA members who signed on are AAJC, APIAHF, APIAVote, AAPCHO, CAPAW, CNHA, HND, NAPABA, NAPAWF, NQAPIA, OCA and SEARAC.
APAICS highlights AAPI leaders in the 2016 general election cycle: In an infographic, the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) shows all of the Asian American and Pacific Islander representation in Congress. AAPI representation is at an all-time high for the 115th Congress.
Six affinity bars respond to recent increase in hate-motivated incidents: NCAPA member the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) and diverse bar associations called on lawyers across the country and elected officials to denounce and take action against hate.
AAPCHO breaks the silence on hepatitis B: The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) hosted a Congressional film screening Dec. 1 of the new documentary, "Be About It." The documentary features the experiences of Alan Wang and AJ Jabonero living with hepatitis B and liver cancer. Hepatitis community advocates thanked Congressman Mike Honda for his years of public service and for being a hepatitis community champion.
NAKASEC mobilizes for last 2016 push for Adoptee Citizenship Act: Last week, the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) delivered 35,000 postcards and held meetings with members of Congress to advocate for the Adoptee Citizenship Act. The act would grant adoptees automatic citizenship regardless of when they were adopted.
APIAHF celebrates 30 years:The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) celebrated its 30th anniversary Dec. 2 in Oakland. Honorees including the National Tongan American Society, presented with the Community Leadership Award.
