NCAPA Responds to President Trump’s First State of the Union Address

The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) issued the following statement following President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address:

As we enter year two of Trump’s presidency, we continue to wait for clear leadership from the White House that benefits all individuals who call America ‘home.’ We continue to wait for a President who unequivocally denounces hate and seeks to heal the divisions that have deepened under his watch.  And we continue to wait for a long-overdue solution for all DREAMers that embraces them for their diversity, and does not seek to destroy their families or others’ families in the process. While the President expressed the right sentiments in this speech, those words in the absence of action fall flat. We challenge him to take action to actually make America great, rather than make America wait.”

NCAPA National Director, Gregg Orton added the following:

“The President and his supporters can no longer rely on the defense that he is new to the job. Our country still faces very real problems domestically and abroad that must be addressed. We have heard even more promises, now it is a simple question of whether this Administration can follow through. After all the bluster and deflections, the President still bears the responsibility of governing. The country is waiting.”
