National Council of Asian Pacific Americans Partners for 2016 Presidential Election Forum

NCAPA to Hold Briefing on Policy Priorities of Asian American and Pacific Islander Communities

The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) is a partner organization for today’s Presidential Election Forum in Las Vegas, co-hosted by Asian & Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) and the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA). This forum will bring 4,000 Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) professionals and community leaders together to highlight the significance of our community’s vote.

President Bill Clinton, on behalf of Democratic presidential nominee Secretary Hillary Clinton, Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, on behalf of Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump, Libertarian presidential nominee Gov. Gary Johnson, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein will speak at the forum.

“NCAPA is proud to support the Presidential Election Forum, which will be a unique opportunity for those interested in support from the AAPI community--the fastest growing racial group in the nation--to engage with us,” said NCAPA National Director Christopher Kang.  “Hundreds of thousands of new AAPIs will vote this November, with community groups mobilizing more than ever before to register AAPIs and to get out the vote, and today, we will have our voices heard by presidential campaigns and candidates.”

As part of Saturday’s programming, NCAPA will have a briefing on our 2016 Policy Platform that highlights AAPI priorities and recommendations, covering issues from comprehensive immigration reform and securing economic justice to affordable and stable housing in the communities of our choice.

The 2016 Presidential Election Forum also will be livestreamed--with supported translations in Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, Korean, and Vietnamese--for those who can’t attend or wish to host watch parties at home. For a full list of events, see APIAVote’s master calendar.

NCAPA members who are partner and supporting organizations for the Election Forum are the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS), Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO), Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CHNA), Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF), National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP), National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development (CAPACD), National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA), National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC), National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA), OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates, and Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC).
