National Council of Asian Pacific Americans Statement on the Passing of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia
Statement from Christopher Kang, National Director of the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) and former Deputy Counsel to President Obama:
"We extend our deepest condolences to Justice Scalia's family and friends. The Supreme Court already has begun to consider many important cases this term--from reproductive rights and affirmative action to workers' rights and the President's immigration executive action--and there is no question that our country deserves a full Supreme Court to decide these issues.
President Obama has an unprecedented record of appointing judges with not only the highest qualifications, integrity, and fair-mindedness, but who also reflect the diversity of our great nation--including the appointment of more Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders than all presidents in history combined.
I am proud to have played a leading role in advising the President on judicial nominations, and NCAPA urges President Obama to make history once again, by nominating of the first Asian American or Pacific Islander Supreme Court Justice."
