National Council of Asian Pacific Americans Praises Passage of Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015

The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) praises passage last night of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015. This legislation will bring certainty to the budget process, create jobs, protect seniors, and strengthen our middle class economic security. In particular, NCAPA is pleased that the Bipartisan Budget Act will help protect Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities from harmful sequestration cuts in non-defense priorities that would have disproportionately impacted important programs focusing on language access, diversity and equality that already are underfunded. This legislation will help ensure that AANHPI communities have access to quality and affordable health care, equal education opportunities, and fair credit and lending opportunities.

Congress now will proceed to the next step of funding the federal government. In turn, NCAPA will advocate that Congress fund AANHPI communities’ priorities and that those funds are free of any ideological policy riders—strings that would harm our communities.
