NCAPA Releases 2016 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Policy Platform, Bringing Attention to AANHPI Priorities and Recommendations 

Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) have been the fastest growing electorate since 2000, and the number of AANHPI registered voters will more than double by 2040. Yet, all too often, AANHPIs—and our policy priorities and recommendations—are rendered invisible

The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), a coalition of 35 national AANHPI organizations, has responded with its Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Policy Platform, released every four years since 2004 to outline opportunities to strengthen the AANHPI community.

“The theme of the 2016 AANHPI Policy Platform is that we demand to be seen, to be heard, and to have a seat at the table—highlighting cross-cutting priorities in data disaggregation, culturally and linguistically appropriate services, and diverse representation in government,” said NCAPA National Director Christopher Kang.“We urge policymakers, elected officials, and candidates to consider these concepts—and all of our policy recommendations—as they propose solutions to improve our communities.”

“AANHPIs are a growing political force who face unique challenges, including discrimination and barriers to accessing resources such as health, education, and housing,” said NCAPA Executive Committee Chair Quyen Dinh. “The policies outlined in NCAPA’s 2016 AANHPI Policy Platform give an overview of our top issues and solutions that would benefit not only the AANHPI community, but our country as a whole.”

Outlined in the 2016 AANHPI Policy Platform are recommended policy solutions in advancing civil rights; promoting the interests of Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders; reforming the immigration system; securing economic justice and affordable, stable housing; expanding educational opportunities; living healthy lives; and planning for our aging community.
